Cyber insurance requirements for medical practices
Carriers now ask for real evidence: MFA, EDR, tested backups, documented plans, and a current risk analysis. We prepare the evidence pack and close the real gaps.
What carriers ask for at renewal
The questionnaire is getting longer. These five items show up on almost every medical practice renewal we see.
Multi-factor authentication
MFA on remote access, email, and privileged accounts. Carriers want proof it is enforced, not just enabled.
Endpoint detection and response
EDR on workstations and servers, with monitoring and response coverage. Antivirus alone is usually not enough anymore.
Tested backups
Backup policies, restore testing, and segregation from production. A backup that has never been restored is not evidence.
Documented plans
Incident response, disaster recovery, and business continuity plans that match the practice's actual systems and vendors.
Current risk analysis
A HIPAA Security Rule risk analysis dated within the last year. Many carriers now require this explicitly.
Start with the free renewal checklist
The Cyber Insurance Renewal Readiness Checklist lists twenty things carriers ask for, grouped by identity, devices, backups, policies, and what to send the broker. It is a free educational download, not an assessment.
From questionnaire to closed gaps
Evidence pack
We build a broker-ready set of policies, screenshots, training records, and risk analysis excerpts that match what the carrier asked for.
Prioritized fixes
We tell you which gaps are likely to block coverage or raise premiums, and we drive those to closed with your IT team or MSP.
Path to the annual program
Renewal becomes one milestone in a year-round program, so next year's application is easier and cheaper to defend.
Cyber insurance questions
What does a medical practice need for cyber insurance renewal?
Carriers commonly ask for evidence of MFA on remote access and email, EDR on endpoints, backup restore testing, documented incident response and disaster recovery plans, and a current HIPAA Security Rule risk analysis. We prepare that evidence and close the real gaps before your broker submits the application.
Is a risk analysis required for cyber insurance?
Many carriers now require a current risk analysis. Harborline's is a fixed fee, scoped on a short call, for a typical single-site, remote engagement. It is also Quarter 1 of the Annual Security Program (billed annually up front).
Can Harborline fill out the insurance questionnaire for us?
We prepare the evidence pack and drive the agreed gaps to closed, so your broker has something defensible. If you need hands-on questionnaire support, see our insurance renewal page.
Is the renewal checklist a free assessment?
No. The Cyber Insurance Renewal Readiness Checklist is a free educational download. It is not an assessment and does not replace a risk analysis. If you need paid help, we scope that on the call.
Do you offer a free assessment to get started?
No free assessments. Every engagement starts with a free 30-minute scoping call to confirm fit and scope. Assessment and renewal support work is paid delivery, priced up front.
What does the Annual Security Program include?
Fixed fee, scoped on a short call, billed annually up front. It includes 1 annual reassessment as Quarter 1, 4 quarterly check-ins, and light async questions capped at 4 hours per quarter. Anything beyond that scope moves to a fractional CISO retainer or a fixed-fee add-on.
Prepare your renewal
A 30-minute scoping call covers your setup, your deadlines, and what a fixed-fee engagement would look like.
